One who bends or breaks the rules in computer games. For single-player games, this could be considered the easy way out but, in multi-player online games, can be extremely disruptive. While most people play games in order to compete and better their score within the rules, cheaters break those rules simply in order to see themselves at the top of the score board or to annoy others.
Cheating has become so pervasive that a strong success level and being exceptional at a game is not assumed to be a function of great skill but of some other means.
Some people consider cheaters to be abusers or hackers - they see it as pushing a game to its limits and being "smarter" than the other players. Most people have a seperate standard for games as opposed to other programs, however, because to most people the whole point of a game is to play within the rules.
